Rest Periods
Puppies need frequent rest periods to
replenish their energy level. 15-30 minutes of
play time is long enough. Offer a
little food & water, then in the playpen or crate for a nap.
This is important for prevention of
Hypoglycemia.
Feedings
Puppies should be offered food every
3 to 4 hours. However, we recommend keeping
food available at all times with
plenty of fresh water at room temperature. We recommend
softened food (soak hard puppy food
in water till softened) till 10 weeks of age at which
time introducing un-softened food
along side softened food and gradually phasing out the
softened.
Warmth
Puppies get cold easy. If the outdoor
temperature is 40F degree’s or less they can only
withstand these conditions for a few
minutes.
Maintenance
Poodles are high maintenance dogs.
They require a haircut every 6 - 8 weeks. It is
recommended that poodles are brushed
daily and bathed weekly or as often as
needed if the right formula of
shampoo is used. Ear care is very important in the
poodle breed. They have hair that
grows inside the ear that has to be removed
periodically to keep from causing
infections. It is easily done and we can tell you or
show you how. If you would rather not
be responsible for this care, your groomer or vet
can do this for you. Nails should be
clipped every couple of weeks.
Most Important
Enjoy your puppy! Accidents will
happen (remember you had accidents at their age too).
Ounce of prevention will save a
emergency trip to the vet. Puppies are like babies, very
inquisitive, mischievous, and desire
to explore. Plenty of puppy approved chew toys will
save your shoes, socks, electrical
cords etc…
